Activity Based Costing Software · California

What to look for in activity-based costing software in California

Activity-based costing only works if every allocation can be traced and defended. PlaidCloud assigns costs from sources to targets using real driver data, organizes costs by function through activity mapping, and shows the full traceback — so finance can explain any number in the model instead of pointing at a spreadsheet nobody understands. It runs at full transaction-level detail on your own high-performance lakehouse, with dashboards included. This site focuses on the costing and allocation side of the problem. The recurring failure mode is not accuracy, it is defensibility: models that produce a number nobody outside finance can interrogate. PlaidCloud keeps the assignment rules explicit, versioned and traceable to source, and runs them at full transaction detail rather than on pre-aggregated balances.

If you are rebuilding the cost model rather than shopping for a report: evaluate on traceability, performance at full detail, how driver data is refreshed each period, audit history on the allocation logic itself, and whether reporting needs a separate BI license.

What to evaluate

Traceability: can you walk any allocated cost back to its drivers and source?
Model size — whether performance holds at full transaction-level detail
How driver data gets refreshed each period, and by whom
Auditability and change history on the allocation logic itself
Whether reporting is built in or requires a separate BI license

How it works

How PlaidCloud Works

Connect, model, and deploy on one platform — no black boxes, no lock-in.

01 · Connect

Connect directly to your source systems

ERPs, CRMs, warehouses, and files — 140+ connectors plus a unified REST step. Ingest financial and transactional data without a rebuild.

02 · Prepare & Blend

Prepare and blend data of any size

Pre-built standard steps sanitize, organize, and align data from multiple sources, with AI-assisted low-code transformation doing the heavy lifting.

03 · Model & Allocate

Build driver-based models and allocations

Assign costs from sources to targets using real driver data, with activity mapping and a full traceback on every allocated number.

04 · Build with AI

Build workflows and apps with AI

Describe what you need through your tenant’s MCP server. PlaidCloud builds and deploys it, and answers “what moved margin?” with attributed root cause.

05 · Deploy & Share

Deploy apps and share results

Schedule runs, publish Apache Superset dashboards, and share governed results across the business under your existing roles and permissions.

Why teams switch

Better. Faster. Cheaper. Safer.

Most stacks make you pick two. PlaidCloud refuses the trade-off.

One platform, end to end

Your own open Iceberg lakehouse, a visual and AI workflow canvas, enterprise dashboards, and deployable AI apps — in one place, with no black boxes and no lock-in.

Better

One platform, end to end

Your ERP does not measure true profitability.

Most finance teams still calculate profitability using spreadsheets built on top of ERP exports. This creates hidden cost allocations, slow reporting cycles, and limited visibility into margin.

Manual Excel models
Hidden allocation logic
Slow financial reporting
Incomplete profitability insights

Build & deploy AI apps

Describe the app to your AI via the per-tenant MCP server; PlaidCloud builds and serves it on your own data and security.

140+ connectors + REST

ERPs, databases, files, and a unified REST step — plus one-click import of your Alteryx workflows and data.
